A working group of the International Aluminium Institute has spent two years pulling together three pathways to net-zero for the industry. These involve (surprise, surprise) low-carbon electricity, CCS, and recycling and resource management. This all sounds hunky-dorey until one looks under the bonnet at how many heavy-industry companies are actually on track to align with Paris Agreement goals - woefully few. Desk-based studies are all very well but it's getting a bit late in the day - 'tis time for action.
