Agnes Elliott Campbell (1866-1950)

 And another great grandparent:

Agnes Elliott Campbell

Daughter of a School Master, Wife of a School Master

Agnes Elliott Campbell was born at Uppingham on 13 June 1866 to Frances Page and William Campbell[1]. William was a master at Uppingham pubic school and Agnes was recorded there in both the 1871 and 1881 censuses[2][3].  Agnes’ future husband, Thomas EdwardMonckton, joined the school as a master in 1866 but I do not know how soon after that they met. The 1891 census records Agnes as a visitor to the household of John Blackwall in Llanrwst. I don’t know what the connection was although I do note that John’s daughter Margaret was of similar age to Agnes[4].

Agnes and Thomas married in Uppingham on 24 August 1893[5] and their first daughter, my grandmother Agnes Joan, was born just over a year later[6]. In all, the couple had three daughters and a son.

They remained in Uppingham until Thomas retired in 1922[7][8] when they moved to Deal. Thomas died there in 1935. In the 1939 register Agnes was recorded as resident in Hollingbourne, Kent[9]. She died on 31 December 1950 at 10 Devonshire Terrace, Paddington[10] which I think was the residence of her daughter and son-in-law Roberta and Hugh Stowell. At probate her estate was valued at £1707[11].
